I loved Jezebel. I thought Shane and Celeste had great chemistry. Two lonely people looking for something. I liked that Trudy was supportive of them. I actually understood why we didn't see Trudy anymore in the book. The story was about building Shane and Celeste as a couple. The story moved at a good pace. Yes, there were some grammar errors but to me, it didn't take away from the story. Something that stuck out to me is how the author would use certain phrases that I thought was more of what we used in the present so some of the comments Celeste made, I thought it was kind of interesting. My only fault was that it ended kind of abruptly. We never got to see a drag out fight between Shane and Celeste about the secrets he kept from her. But nonetheless I really enjoyed the story. I would definitely buy from this author again.

Jezebel edition by Koko Brown Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Jezebel, set in the 1930's, was a romance between a prizefighter and a hoofer (tap dancer). Of course during this time period, their relationship faced racism, which was covered without overshadowing the romance.

As usual, Koko Brown has mastered the art of creating heat and sensuality between the characters.

The author covered the time period nicely, throwing in historical references and period slang. Also it would be negligent of me not to mention the editing issues. Added characters probably happened when uploading to , but the simple punctuation and grammatical errors were editing issues. Although the story was good enough to keep reading, I hate when I have to reread a sentence two or three times. It throws me off.

Overall, I recommend Jezebel.
My first historical piece. Koko has been added to my top 5 list. Her male characters are always hard core. Love it....Get this book and others.
I love Koko Brown books, but this is the first and hopefully the last one I downgrade. Maybe it was the era or what, not sure. But when I usually finish her books, I'm like damn, I finished it, I don't want it to end. I actually made myself go back to finish this one. It was kind of boring, and not the terminology really either, my dad is from that era and used a lot of the words... so I could follow their meanings. But it was just so uninteresting, their love scenes were great, but somewhat confusing about the cousin. The ending never addressed how she handled his impending mental illness from being punched too much in the ring. The synopsis wasn't very eye catching, and hers are normally are... so that was a clue I overlooked. Oh we'll, I will still buy her books.
KoKo is an intervator in writing period pieces! I wish I had these types of stories to read when I was a teen reading Harlequin Romances! This just takes you over the edge for real!
Koko Brown wrote a classic IR 1930s love story with a spin using NYC as the back drop and thirties lit that's "hip" what's not to love. A Brooklyn Celeste is a free spirit dancer but her party-girl ways gets her in more trouble than she cares for soon tragedy strikes causing Celeste to return to a life she abandon. After meeting Celeste Shane falls hard for the beautiful hooch dancer. Shane's a strong and caring man who doesn't let a person's color get in the way of what he wants. Celeste thought by avoiding the winning prizefighter he'd just go away; boy was she wrong with the help of her crazy cousin Trudy/Troy Shane gets what he wants. This is a really good story something you can sink your teeth in. Being a Brooklynite myself I was happy to see the same streets I walk on being mentioned Ms. Brown really makes the pages come alive with enough humor, drama and hot sex. I definitely recommend this oldie but goodie!
Koko Brown engages the reader from beginning to the end. She enables the reader to be engaged with the story as well as get to know the characters intimately. I could not stop reading until I finished the story. Recommend not only this book, but all of her books.
I enjoyed this book. I love historical romances. This one was set in the 1930s Depression Era. Shane, the bruiser was sexy and handsome. Celeste lives high and big, but its all just a cover for the aching emptiness and feelings of never being good for her father, so she left home and his rules at fifteen. She meets Shane, her and Shane have their issues, but they make a great couple for African American woman and an Irish man in the 1930s.
