I bought this realising it had mixed reviews. Unfortunately it is not even worth the $1 I paid for it. It is badly written and barely readable. I struggled to get through to chapter three and gave up.

The story is incoherent. Trivial details, such as the effects of voice training on accent (which lacks credibility to me) were foregrounded, while significant plot elements were understated or missing.

As far as I could work out the main character was socially dysfunctional church music teacher with a liking for ice cream, who for some obscure reason was being set up to be a key person on a jury. But the prose was so poor it was unconvincing. There were also clumsy references to small town racial prejudice which were jarring, and a possible "God loves us all" theme that was like to jump out again in the last chapter to save the book.

Personally it qualified as an interesting rough draft but nowhere near ready to be published. The kind of book that gives self publishing a bad name.

Bicycle Shop Murder Greg Tenorly Suspense Book 1 edition by Robert Burton Robinson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Tarsol THORNSBURY
Started slow with many characters. A little childish about Greg's thoughts and feelings for Cynthia. Good plot tied up nicely in the end. Worth the read. Thanks.
I was disappointed with the main characters in this book. It seemed more like a weak story line for a daytime soap. Not what I thought it was going to be. I won't likely be reading book #2 in the series.
I really like a suspense/ murder mysteries. This one was NOT disappointing, it was a page turner. Can't wait to read book 2. Story has easy to follow characters and interesting plot. I live in mid-west and it very well could happen.
I started this book in June, put it aside and went on to other books. My thinking was I probably wasn't interested in another murder mystery. In August I tried again and realized it wasn't being ready for a murder mystery but, IMO, it was a poorly written story with a very predictable plot. And for the "trial", it certainly wasn't a Perry Mason moment. The prosecution going to trial with no evidence and only 1 witness and expecting that to be enough to convict is a hard pill to swallow. Any defense attorney would be able to win an acquittal.

Though this should have nothing to do with rating, the electronic version has many hyphenated words that shouldn't be hyphenated and hyphenated names. It became quite distracting and may have a bearing on the 2 star rating I'm giving.
Reads like a Nancy Drew mystery geared toward grade school kids. An old woman sees a black guy leaving the bike shop. Next thing you know he's on trial for murder. HUH..? Doesn't say how he got arrested, how the investigation evolved, no evidence to connect the suspect to the scene of the crime, no forensics to tie him to the scene. No D.A. would ever go to trial with ONE witness and no evidence. Very poor read.
I liked reading this book. Not a slow read reading book. Or a book you would read a few chapters and did not like. I like it becaues you did not get to guess who killed who. And had a surprise twist at the end.
I was intrigued by the story style here. Revealing the culprit from the beginning and leaving the mystery open as to "why" rather than "who"- This was a rather well written book. Minimal in grammatical errors and editing blunders. Didn't take away from the story... The reason I give this a 3 star... and I could even say 3 1/2...- The main character, who appears to be modeled after the author in the looks department, seems to be a mild mannered type guy but with an obviously "seedy/creepy" viewpoint on things- Probably no different than any red-blooded man but the thoughts revealed that he has kind of make him a "creepy-nerdy" type... Also, his background in the church just make those thoughts even more creepy like... I will look for the next in series and read it just to see how this character evolves. The story itself rolled pretty well, at one point it did seem to skip ahead without much explanation as to how "it" got there but didn't lose me which was good. Again, an easy read, story line well enough to hold attention til the end. I do wish a bit more came out about the "culprit" and the aftermath of everything. But it did end in a natural type way, just seemed more could have been written.
